Bullish Celtic's manager shows no fear of being fired yet the Parkhead faithful unleash wrath after defeat.

Wilfried Nancy insisted he had no concerns about losing his job, maintaining, “I believe we are very near to changing our fortunes,” in the wake of moving dangerously close to the chopping block with a comprehensive setback against the Ibrox side.

Another Capitulation Leads to Derby Loss

The Hoops were ahead their oldest rivals at half-time but a disastrous second period let Rangers to move level on points with the defending league title holders. The French coach, who was appointed in December, has now presided over six losses in his first eight matches.

“We are together at the club,” insisted the manager.

Pressed on his own future, Nancy replied: “I don’t think about it. My focus is on working out methods to get the team to excel on the fine details.

Supporters' Anger Outside Parkhead

Hundreds of supporters made their feelings clear – towards the hierarchy – by gathering at Parkhead. The board would be most likely to return to the interim manager, who enjoyed a successful caretaker period last year, if Nancy departs.

“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the truth for the moment. But by saying this is the reality, I am not saying that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. The message is we are really close, really, really close to turn things around.”

“Really, Really Close”

Nancy remains focused on the fact Celtic show good levels for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, but for missed chances they could have been greater than 1-0 up. “There were positives except the fact that we haven’t scored a second goal,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.

“The performance we had at times was of top quality. That is a fact. And I would not say that if it was different. That is the reason, regarding outcomes, I noted it's a repeating pattern. That’s why I believe we are nearly there to a shift in fortunes. Currently: details, details, details.”

“There were many, many good things that we did, once more. The issue now is performing for 90 minutes. My narrative would not be if it was not the case. Therefore I am convinced the team can to turn things around.”

Opposition Reaction Response

Danny Röhl refused to contemplate a championship push despite what appeared to be a landmark win. “Step by step, then we can develop a challenge,” he said. “The confidence in the squad is excellent.”
